Grasmere to Patterdale

I forgot to mention that Grasmere is also famous for Wordworth's Cottage and Lake Windemere, neither of which we were able to visit.  Ample reason to return.  Here is a better photo of the summit of yesterday's walk, provided by a wonderful fellow traveler:

Photos somehow can't capture the steep incline. The Sherpa Van driver stopped to give us a nice view of Lake Windemere and as a result we had another chance to watch the amazing dogs and shepherds rounding up the sheep and herding them off for shearing.  So much fun.

We are in a lovely B & B outside of town with magnificent views of the mountain we climb next, beautiful trees and, of course, sheep. We walked into Glenridding, the little village next door, and had dinner at Fellbite's.  Delicious.  Right next to a river and by the lake.  Lentil soup with homemade bread, fabulous greens with breaded goat cheese, beetroot puree and pickled walnuts!

One more comment about food.  The waiters look at us pitifully when we order.  For instance, this morning is ordered one egg on toast and told him to hold the toast then.  I had just told him to please bring only one piece of toast.  He brought two pieces anyway.  We've been sharing meals because it's outrageous how much people eat here.  The usual breakfast consists of cereal or porridge, compote, fruit juice, coffee/tea, then eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cooked tomatoes and mushrooms and toast! No wonder they can traipse up and down these mountains with such apparent ease.

We have one more day here to recuperate and decide our next move.  The next leg is supposed to be the most difficult of the trip and the weather prediction is for very cold, heavy rain and gale force winds to 38 miles per hour!  We're not sure we have the proper clothing for such a jaunt.

Must go to cot now.  Maybe a bit more on rural England versus life in Stockton tomorrow.  Hope all is well with you all who are following this.
